Disc: Any straining or what is called a valsalva maneuver can make a herniated disc push into you nerves giving you more pain. Get an MRI of the spine.

Pain while straining: This is a common symptom of both muscle strain pain and disc pain. If you have no leg weakness or numbness, best to be patient with rest and anti inflammatory medications. Gentle stretching and light exercise can also be helpful under the supervision of your physician or therapist.
