Green food usually: Dark green leafy veggies can cause green stool., iron supplements, algae rapid transit through the gut can cause bile to get into colon (often causes diarrhea). Lots of GI causes: infection-salmonella, giardia, celiac sprue, malabsorption, ibd, gastroenteritis, and more. Ongoing, associated with other symptoms, diarrheal stools, pain, fever, etc- see your doc.

Related to food: Likely related to food items you've eaten. Or sometimes to non-food items: ingesting foods that have been colored with food coloring can change the stool appearance transiently. My brother once ate blue chalk. Yes- you guessed it right.

Green BMs: If stool is loose, reason for green stool could be rapid gut transit time. Green cabbage, lettuce, peas, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, green salad, green leaves, celery and green beans as well as food that contains green food coloring can lead to green stool. Some meds can change stool color. If there is a change to stooling pattern that can’t be explained medical eval would be prudent.

What's it mean when your bowel movement is bright green?

Rapid Transit: Bright green stool can be caused by many things but most of the time is due to the rapid movement of stool through the colon. The color of stool changes from green (bile) to yellow-brown as it passes through the colon. Any factor which leads to an increase passage of stools through the colon can prevent the change of coloring, hence the green stool. Ex: diarrhea after taking antibiotics.

Green Stool: Any conditions which cause the stool to transit too rapidly through the intestines can lead to green, moist stool. On the other hand eating green leafy vegetables can lead to green stool. Green cabbage, lettuce, peas, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, green salad, green leaves, celery & green beans as well as food that contains green food coloring can lead to green stool. Some meds can change stool >.
A 48-year-old female asked:

If your bowel movement is coming out green is something wrong?

Dr. Anatoly Belilovsky

Usually not.: Stool starts out green in the small bowel, and bacteria turn it brown. Rapid transit of stool through the intestines, or a change in bacterial populations, can prevent this from occurring.

That is possible: If transit time through the GI tract increases - that can cause green stool.
