This is a very : Difficult to answer without knowing all the details of our case. Why are you bed bound? What is the cause of your pain? Another words if the pain is stemming from your back for example cutting off a foot may not help rid you of the pain......Knowing all parameters of what is going on needs to be known before making giving advice.

Need more info: While intractable pain can be resolved by amputation, it's too extreme of a solution to recommend without more information. Where is your pain? Was it the result of an injury? What treatments have been attempted? Since there is no going back from amputation, you need to be sure all more benign therapies have been explored first.

It is an option.: Depending on your general condition and general health, an amputation certainly is an option. Consult with your physician and explore all your options before attempting an amputation because once you have an amputation there is no going back.
