Yes: New onset mouth ulcers are painful. A simple covering or oral bandage will usually be soothing to the irritated and exposed nerve endings. Olive oil is certainly safe to use, however kenalog (triamcinolone) is an oral bandage specifically designed to stay in place on moist oral tissues. If the ulcer does not resolve within 7 - 10 days be sure to have a professional evaluation.
