I just had an mri and it showed swelling in the mastoid spaces. i've also been having dizzy spells, and am wondering if the two might be related?

Yes: It is possible to see signs of inflammation in the mastoid air cells on an MRI of the head. In fact, this is a common finding. This could certainly relate to dizziness. However, MRI is not the best tool for evaluating the inner ear or the mastoids. It is best to see your doctor and put these findings in the proper context before jumping to the conclusion that they are related.
