Probably: The studies that showed effectiveness of Diltiazem ointment for anal fissures generally used twice daily application for 6-8 weeks to watch for acute healing of the fissure. Patients that did not respond were offered other proven treatments, usually surgery. No large studies have looked at safety for long term use but oral Diltiazem is often used as long term therapy for high blood pressure.
