Fertility timing: The first day of your period is counted as day 1. Most fertile time to get pregnant is usually between days 12-14 (assuming periods are regular and about 28 days apart) getting pregnant on day 1 would be unusual. Sperm can travel pretty far but do best in a warm moist environment. Deposited in the vagina , they can make it up to an egg coming down a fallopian tube. Sperm outside the body struggle.

Yes but only if . . : If you have sex w/o using any form of contraception, potentially you can get pregnant. Your chances depend upon when you have sex relative to your menses. The best way to prevent pregnancy (aside from not having sex) is to use some form of birth control. Pills only prevent pregnancy. Condoms prevent pregnancy & sexually transmitted infections. Consider using both to be extra sure.

Depends on...: It partly depends on when a woman ovulates. If no ovulation 0-5 days after ejaculation, then the sperm have no egg to fertilize. That means it partly depends on one's cycle length, because a woman with short cycles will ovulate closer to the end of her period, but a woman with long cycles will ovulate farther from the end of her period. So, one has to figure out... when does this woman ovulate?

Not likely, but: If this was really, really recent, it is not impossible from your side of the fertility question. If his sperm are really fertile strong travelers it's more possible. That's why for confident (still not total) prevention condom use is advised for any sexual encounters. Again, it is not likely. But it is possible. Be careful.

Low.: An egg probably won't survive until 12 days before your period.

Remote chance: Although it is quite unlikely to become pregnant during your period, that does not mean impossible (especially on the last day of your period). Use protection for all acts of vaginal intercourse if you do not want to become pregnant.
