A member asked:

Is it possible to have a bulge at sergical sit of hernia after 53 yrs.?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Sometimes hernias recurr, but it is also possible to have muscle weakness but not have a true hernia. A hernia is a hole in the fascia ("tough tissue") that holds the contents of the abdomen inside. The tissue used to repair a henia with sutures may pull loose, causing a recurrent henia. Most repairs done more than 25 yrs ago did not use mesh; using mesh safely will usually avoid recurrence.
