Birth control: If pregnancy is not desired, what are typically medications/methods for birth control can help to alleviate prolonged bleeding. These include birth control pills, the depotprovera shot, or the levonorgestrel intrauterine device. However, all of these have downsides, too - so the benefits need to be carefully weighed against potential down sides. It is probably best to discuss with a gynecologist.
