Depends: Physique in the abdominal area will respond to strength workouts, creating more definition to the rectus abdominus, external oblique and internal oblique muscles. However, if there is a significant of overlying fat it will hide the abdominal muscles no matter how much strength training is done.

You are working ....: The muscles on the front of the thighs (quadriceps, or quads). Strength training involves stressing our muscles just enough that there are very small tears. When we rest for the next 48-72 hrs, these micro tears heal, making the muscle stronger. That's why rest is a vital part of training. Soreness for the 1st 24 hrs after w/o is normal, as long as it gets better over the next 48hrs.

Moderate intake: A flat stomach is largely due to watching what you eat. Fuel the body don't fuel the mind. An excellent at home exercise to help burn calories though is to jump rope. Try jumping for 5 minutes a day working up to 10 or 15 minutes.

Planks: Try planks. You hold yourself as if you were going to do push ups but don't go down. Hold as long as you can, then you can work on side planks to define the obliques.
