A member asked:

Is it normal to feel really crampy and really nauseous at the beginning of my period even if my flow is spotty and light? what's going on?

Yes: One of the substances the lining of the uterus produces is prostaglandins which can cause nausea and diarrhea and cramping. Now if your period is much lighter than usual it is possible you are pregnant so then check a pregnancy test.

Yes: Many women experience nausea and cramps with the menses - some of the symptoms are due to increase prostaglandin production and some of the symptoms are due to neurologic reflexes.
