OTC meds; rest up: With typical colds, the symptoms go away on their own. One can check with her doctor to see if a throat swab should be done to look for strep throat (because antibiotics would be needed in that case). Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin can relieve aches, sore throat, or fever. Sore throat lozenges and warm tea/soup can help also. One should rest a bit, and not do much sports or exercise, for at least a few days.
