Recently, my bottom has been very sore due to frequent bowel movements. could this be a result of irritable bowel syndrome?

No: Soreness in your anus is irritation from the stool or too frequent of passing of stool. Try applying some vitamin a & d ointment, neosporin cream and take tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain. Ibs/ irritable bowel syndrome would present with alternating diarrhea and constipation accompanied by abdominal cramping, nausea, etc. And ibs is diagnosed after all other diagnoses are ruled out.
