Fair: Nitroglycerin ointment has been around for about 12 years for anal fissure. It leads to healing in about 2/3 of patients. About 20% of patients stop treatment due to headache. Many colon and rectal surgeons have gone to other medications such as compounded 0.2% Diltiazem which has similar success rate with fewer side effects.

76% -- : The most recent studies report that it is 76% effective at curing anal fissures. If this fails, you can try Diltiazem ointment that raises that percentage to about 86% success.
