What causes the occassional pain in the left side of my mid area. do i have a problem in my liver?

It depends: The liver is located under the right side of your rib cage, however the left lobe of your liver can cross into your mid area. Usually this doesn't cause occasional pain, however, without knowing the details of the pain, i would recommend visiting your pcp or a gastroenterologist for a specific diagnosis.
