Depends: This depends on the STD. Some, including gonorrhea & chlamydia may not have symptoms in some while they can produce discharge & pelvic pain in most. HPV strains associated with cancer may never show symptoms, ever before turning a pap smear positive. If you are sexually active it is reasonable to have STD screening every so often as a precaution.
