Many different thing: This is a tough question as we really need more specific information. Where in your back is the pain; high or low back. Do you have generalized weakness or are your legs weak? Do you have any other known medical problems? How long has this been going on for?

Hard to say: Back problems are very common and when they become particularly severe they can make the person feel like their back and legs will give out on them. Some patients can have a pinching of the nerves in the back that can cause a neurologic weakness of the legs as well. If it persists, you should probably be checked. Thank you for your question.
