A member asked:

Antibiotics and birth control. does it affect each other? what about depo? if it did, would there be symptoms? there are so many contradicting facts.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Contraception: There seems to be a lot of evidence that antibiotics interfere with the effectiveness of oral contraceptives (but not depo). There are no symptoms that the contraceptive function is compromised. A good idea would be to use barrier-type contraceptives (condom/diaphragm) during the month in which you are taking antibiotics. Resume regular contraceptive methods the following month.
