It only takes once: Sperm can live up to 3 days in the fallopian tubes of a woman after sex, but women only make eggs once a month. This is called ovulation. You want living sperm to be waiting for the egg when it gets there. Since it's hard to guess when some women ovulate, sex every 2-3 days, especially mid-cycle, should do the job, but it only takes one act of sex at the right time to get a woman pregnant.

Timing is important: Timing is more important than # times/day. Having intercourse every 1-2 days to time intercourse around the time of ovulation is generally sufficient. However, if not pregnant after trying to conceive after one year (6 months if woman > 35 years), then recommend seek consultation with gyn or infertility specialist for infertility evaluation.
