A 57-year-old female asked:
is msm beneficial?

Maybe.: I usually ask patients to tell me if they feel it works. There is not a lot of evidence to support it, but some patients feel it does. It would not be right to stop it.

A 48-year-old male asked:
Kindly let me know the uses, dosage and contraindication of methyl sulfonyl methane?

Dr. Martin Raff answered

Methylsulfonylmethan: No medical uses for msm are approved. A variety of health benefits have been claimed and studied and has been touted as a natural source of "biologically active sulfur", a material readily available in any reasonable diet. My advice is not to take this, and go read pt barnum's advice. Best wishes.

See details: Msm or DMSO is a liquid that is applied to the skin. It is one of the agents that is supposedly to be used for numerous issues but has little scientific evidence to support its benefit. The one thing it will do is give you horrible bad breath.

It will cause topical chemicals 2 B absorbed through the skin easily, but it is not selective so it will also push anything through the skin barrier including poisons and toxic chemicals that may B around also. Must keep covered & not open 2 the air as it will absorb air born chemicals & gases.use with extreme care. Used a lot in treating horses.
