A 25-year-old female asked:
if my transvaginal said due date 9th july could i have got pg 29 sep 2012 ?

No, not likely: A due date of july 9 matches with a conception date around october 16. Life is not exact and can sometimes surprise people, but september 29 is more than 2 weeks too early.

A 39-year-old member asked:
Besides an incorrectly calculated due date, what does it mean if I am measuring small?

Dr. Kevin Fleishmananswered

Growth retardation: If you measure small, it could mean your baby is a little small, or it could be growth retarded, transverse lie, or low amnionic fluid. The next step should be an ultrasound and estimation of fetal weight and amnionic fluid volume.

Are earlier or later scans more accurate in predicting due dates?

Yes: Earlier scans are always more accurate than later ultrasounds. When we decide on a due date it is determine by your last menstrual period and the first ultrasound.

A 26-year-old member asked:
How will my doctor calculate my due date?
2 doctor answers • 4 doctors weighed in

Dr. Katherine Sutherlandanswered
Gynecology 43 years experience
By your LMP: The average length of a pregnancy is considered to be 38 weeks from the time of conception or 40 weeks from the first day of the last menstrual period (assuming you have a regular 28 day menstrual cycle). That is an average so many women will have their babies before or after the calculated date. An ultrasound early in the pregnancy can help confirm an expected due date.

A 40-year-old member asked:
What are the chances of delivering on my projected due date?
2 doctor answers • 7 doctors weighed in

Dr. Brittany Chananswered
Pediatrics 10 years experience
Hard to say.: If you were sure about the date of your last menstrual period, & you follow a regular cycle, it's more likely that your due date will be accurate. Ultrasound can also help accurately date your pregnancy. But even if your due date calculation is accurate, factors such as infection, trauma, & a weak cervix could cause you to go into preterm labor. The baby could also come late, for unknown reasons.

A 40-year-old member asked:
Can aroma therapy and essential oils be used past the expiration date?
2 doctor answers • 5 doctors weighed in

Dr. Randy Bakeranswered
Holistic Medicine 40 years experience
Yes: Expiration dates on medicines, vitamins and herbs are often unreliable; while some drugs may go bad after a certain period, an essential oil is likely to remain beneficial for quite awhile after the expiration date. There is a chance it may become somewhat less potent over time but it is unlikely to be harmful in any way, especially if it is a pure essential oil. If it still smells good try it!

Agree, the purer the longer they last. Essential oils have been discovered still active from ancient tombs.
