Antidepressants: Benefits of antidepressants include relief from symptoms of depression: sleep disturbance, loss of interest in normal activities, fatigue, sad mood with suicidal thinking, etc. Side effects vary by the specific medication and are best discussed with your physician. Usually the best results come when psychotherapy is also part of the treatment for depression.

Depends: All antidepressants have potential side effects and it depends on the individual which one is most effective with tolerable or no side effects. Unfortunately, it can be a matter of trial and error to find the right one for you and sometimes therapy may be as good or better than medication. A psychiatrist will work with you to find the best treatment.
