More info needed: When a baby is born with dtga there may be no visible evidence. Many states are now requiring an easy test, pulse oximetry., which can improve on that. If a communication inside the heart is small, the child could become very ill within hrs to days of birth. A large communication could allow the child to live for months, but they will become increasingly blue.

It depends : Hope this baby is back to the hospital and receiving treatment. Survival with transposition of the great arteries (tga) depends on the presence of a shunt between the systemic (body) & the pulmonary circulations (lungs) till corrective surgery. This shunt could be the ductus till its closure (on the 3rd day), or an associated congenital septal defect. Doctors will keep duct open &/or open septum.
