No effect: Efudex is a topical chemotherapy composed of an older chemo drug called 5-fluorouracil or 5-fu. It has no efficacy in treating melanoma.

Not on melanoma: Efudex (fluorouracil) is effective for precancerous skin lesions like actinic keratosis . It should not be used for melanoma or basal or squamous cell cancer.

Melanoma: The primary treatment of melanoma revolves around excision because of the importance placed on the depth of the melanoma in the layers if the skin.

Minimal: You should not use effudex (5-fu chemo cream) on a melanoma lesion. The only curative treatment is surgical resection of skin melanoma in early stage. If you have advanced disease, you should talk wth your oncologist regarding treatment options such as interleukin-2, ipilimumab, vemurafenib or a clinical trial.
