Cramps are common: The uterine walls are made of muscle and when they contract women can feel it as cramps. The monthly hormones can change the amount of muscle contractions, so can sex and orgasm. The period or the shedding of the blood lining will also involve many cramps to protect you from losing too much blood. With a recent surgery i would guess your uterus has more muscle and blood lining hence the cramps.
