Generic Claritin (loratadine): Loratadine is the generic name for brand name claritin. It is taken once daily for allergy symptoms such as itchy eyes, runny nose, and congestion. In my experience it has less side effects such as sleepiness but also is not as effective as Cetirizine (generic zyrtec) or the best medicine, a prescription steroid nasal spray.
