Antihistamines: Antihistamines are very effective at helping relieve itching. The newer antihistamines such as claritin, zyrtec, allegra, xyzal, and Clarinex have less side effects than Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and the other older ones. If itching worsens or there is associated swelling, see an allergist. They are uniquely qualified to find the cause so maybe you won't need to take medications.
