Maybe indirectly: A mother who is severely depressed may not bond with her newborn, may socially isolate, be irritable or physically agressive or simply lack the motivation or energy to take care of her child or children. It can sometimes be quite devastating. That is one reason that it is so imporant to get professional help - to avoid a negative impact on the children. But also, no woman wants to suffer.
