None: Almost all cases of AML can now be attributed to some type of chromosomal damage. There is no known infectious agent in humans to causes the leukemia. The disease cannot be passed from on person to another based on casual contact.

Bad immune system : When AML is diagnosed (before any chemo), the immune system is very decreased. This makes many infections possible. The ones that we often see are fungal infections, bacterial infection. These typically involve the deep tissues (skin, muscle) or the lung. But again, any type of infection is possible.
