Since 2000, yes: Ritalin is a short-acting (4 hrs) form of methylphenidate. There are nedium-acting (8hrs.) & long-acting (12 hrs) formulations, a liquid, & a skin patch, as well. The other stimulant, amphetamine, comes as mixed amphetamine salts in short (4-5 hrs) , long-acting (12 hrs) & pro-drug (12-14 hrs.). There are 2 non-stimulants for adhd, 1 of which can be used alone or as an adjunct with a stimulant.

Yes: Other methylphenidate meds such as concerta, Adderall and similar medications, there are probably 10 other long acting meidications that are similar. Strattera has been helpful for sx treated by Ritalin as have wellbutrin (bupropion) and imiprimine.
