A member asked:

If someone often gets the hiccups, is it reason for concern?

Generally no: For the most part, hiccups are a mild diaphragmatic spasm, and can happen after eating, sometimes with spicy foods, or other unknown reasons. Some can get them with stress. If they are short lived, and not causing debillitation, they are ok. If they are prolonged or come with other odd symptoms, they can be a sign of further issues.

In infants..: ..... Hiccups can be a sign of hidden reflux. If you believe your baby is extra fussy, bring this to the attention of your pediatrician. Otherwise, they are generally harmless.
