Mechanical symptoms: The most common causes are meniscal problems, arthritis(degenerative) or patellofemoral pain. You should see a physician if these symptoms persist.

Meniscus tear: The most common reason for locking is a torn meniscus cartilage. Get a good exam and an MRI is the definitive imagining study to show this after an X-ray is done.
