Anovulation: One of the more common causes of irregular periods and continuous 4 month periods is anovulation. This will also keep you from getting pregnant. You need to see an Ob/Gyn who can help you cycle regularly and determine if/why you are not ovulating and help you become pregnant. Best wishes!
