A 33-year-old member asked:
how long does it take for the dilating eyedrops to wear off?

3 hours to 1 week: Depending on your sensitivity and the type and dosage of eyedrop, dilating eyedrops can take between 3 hrs and 1 week (maybe longer!) to wear off. You should let the doctor who dilated you know if it lasts more than 24 hrs, but it is not a medical emergency. It can be quite inconvenient, though.

Hours, usually: For most people, the nuisance symptoms of the dilating drops, namely the blurred near vision and sensitivity to light, are decreased or gone by a few hours, usually 4 to 6. For the uncommon person, however, it can take 24-48 hours for all the symptoms to completely wear off.

Faster w/reversing: There are drops called reversing drops that many eye doctors use to speed up the recovery after dilation. Dapirazole hcl 0.5%is an eyedrop that helps the mydriacyl (tropicamide) to loosen its hold on the receptors in the iris muscles that lead to dilated pupils. Then the dilating drops can wear off in 45 minutes to an hour, in most cases.

If you are supposed to put eyedrops in the conjunctival sac, where is your conjunctival sac?

Eye lining: The term conjunctival sac refers to the space opened when you pull your lower lid down exposing the eye lining. This creates a sac like are onto which eyedrops can be placed. Once in that space, when you let the lid go, the drops spreads over the whole eye.

Could eyedrops replace contact solution?

No: Most contact lens solutions are multi-purpose solutions that are cleaning, soaking and disinfecting contact lenses. Eyedrops do not these functions.

What are the over-the-counter medications/eyedrops that cure pinkeye?
1 doctor answer • 2 doctors weighed in

Dr. Todd Purkissanswered
Ophthalmology 17 years experience
None really: Most "pinkeye" or conjunctivitis is actually viral, so eye drops, including antibiotics, are usually not effective. Viral conjunctivitis tends to run it's course in 7-10 days. It can be very contagious, spreading from one eye to the other or to other people. Hand washing is essential. To be certain it is not a more serious bacterial or fungal infection, you should see an ophthalmologist.

I wear 1day acuvue moist contact lenses.Any1 know good eyedrops that wont suction cup them to my eyesballs?I love these, i just need eyedrops that work

Artificial tears: 1 day disposable contact lenses are becoming increasingly popular because they are comfortable and are thrown away daily rather than needing to be cleaned and stored every night. Any brand of preservative-free artificial tear can be used safely with soft contact lenses (e.g. Systane, optive, etc). I'm not sure why any eyedrops would suction cup the contacts to your eyes though.

Short term: Opcon-a is an otc anti-allergy agent for prn as needed use. Effectiveness is average. Rx strength Pataday is best. However otc zaditor (ketotifen) is probably best otc agent.
