Yes: Your period starts 14 days after you ovulate. The time from your last period to ovulation is only consistent if you have regular periods. If your periods are irregular you can not predict when ovulation will occur so you are always "at risk" of getting pregnant. Being you do not know when to expect your period to start you don't know if you are late or not so you could be pregnant and not know it.
