Very small risk : There is a small increased risk of cancer with ct scans. Younger patients are believed to be more vulnerable to the effects of radiation.Ct head radiation dose is approximately 1-2 msv, by comparison, the average exposure from environmental sources is 3 msv per year. As radiologists we always try to minimize radiation utilizing novel radiation reduction technique. Mri alternatively has no radiation.

No.: No, if there is a good indication, this may have been necessary. Diagnostic xrays only become problematic after a larger dose than you received, relax about this, but do not be afraid to ask why the ct ( or any test, or procedure) is necessary. It is your body. You have that right . If your physician, blows you off, get a new doctor!
