Retinal problems: Medically necessary sunglasses are most often prescribed for patients who have retinal problems and have poor tolerance to changing light conditions. Most commonly, we see patients with aniridia who are very glare sensitive due to abnormal retinas. Patients with macular degeneration can also benefit.

Light sensitivity: Sunglasses protect from bright light. Any eye treatment which dilates the pupil would benefit from sunglasses . Inflamed eyes are also light sensitive, and sunglasses are of benefit also in those conditions. Sunglasses are otherwise good protection against uv light exposure for anyones eyes.
