Congenital: If not surgical, usually a congenital condition (anal atresia) caused by a failure of migration of the cells that eventually form the anal complex --they don't end up in the right place! usually diagnosed at birth as part of the routine baby exam, but may show up later as the baby doesn't poop and gets swollen!
