A 40-year-old member asked:

How can you improve your eye sight naturally?

Probably not: Unless you have some treatable eye disease which lowers the sight and will improve with treatment then there is no natural agent that will help vision meaningfully. Herbals such as eyebright and bilberry are promoted by naturopaths as vision aids, but have not been proven to actually work. Eye exercises can be done, but these have not been proven. See your ophthalmologist for the best advice.

Not usually: Some patients benefit from supplements such as billberry or eyebright, and mild eye exercises can improve accomodation, but generally when you need glasses to see, it is best to have a proper eye exam and start to use your glasses or contact lenses to see well. If you have a tear film problem, then flax seed oil or fish oil supplements can help improve the eyesight.

No: Eye exercises can make the eyes feel more comfortable, and might have some effect on eye misalignment, but they will not change the basic eye power needs for eyeglasses or contacts.

How can I improve long distance eye sight?

Dr. Ajay Gupta
Ophthalmology 26 years experience
Glasses or contacts: There unfortunately is no way via diet, exercise, or exercises for the eye to reduce a refractive error. To improve your vision at distance, i recommend a complete eye exam and then a discussion with your doctor of the options including glasses, contacts, or laser vision correction.

A 19-year-old male asked:

Is it possible to improve week eye sight ?

2 doctor answers11 doctors weighed in
Dr. Harold Peltan

Often: Get an exam with an eye md to identify the cause. Poor diet can be helped by better nutrition. Some conditions can be helped by surgery or injections, like diabetic retinopathy and cataract. Glasses, contact lenses, and lasik surgery can help with refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. While some eyes have been too badly damaged to help, most eyes can be helped.
