Perhaps: If you have polycystic ovary syndrome (pcos) your lh may be chronically elevated and thus could give you false readings. This is more likely to be seen in lean pcos women. I would suggest checking when your period is finished and if the urine lh is negative, you could use them to assess for ovulation.

Irregular periods...: Make it difficult to know when you are ovulating. Ovulutaon is 14 days prior to upcoming period, but that doesn't help you going forward. In patients with irregualr cycles, the ovulation tetsts often don't work due to hormonal & timing issues. My best advice is find out why u are irregular with your obgyn to synchronize cycle and diagnose any underlying problems, otherwise completly random.
