Do smokers receive "top of the list" priority for receiving a heart transplant?

No: A donated heart is the ultimate gift. And because of that every effort is made not to waste the gift. Transplants are offered to those patients who are felt to receive the most benefit and who are felt to take the best care of their new heart. In my experience smokers are not considered for heart transplant.

LAS: Lung allocation score. Your transplant center will evaluate and assign you a lung allocation score and depending on that priorities are assigned. Your transplant surgeon can explain your particular standing.
