Empathy: Compassion is understanding & relating to what the person is going through, not discrediting their feelings or emotions for the fear of tragic outcome. Spending time listening to what the person is telling us, and providing support & guidance go a long way in giving that person hope & purpose in life.

Empathy: It would appear so without understanding the full conversation that led to this comment. Empathy is the capacity to understand and respond to the unique aspects of another person's experience, if this did not take place you have your answer. Best.

Suicide & empathy: Empathy is comprehension of another person's circumstance enough to feel along with him/her. This doesn't mean the one empathizing will agree with choices the other person wants to make in response to the situation. Viktor frankl md said: "between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." be well.
