If it hurts: Assuming this is just a ganglion cyst i would only recommend surgery if it is bothering you. These cysts are benign.

You may want to: Get it looked at first. Some mistake a carpal boss or a small boney prominence for a ganglion. Other times a small cystic fluid filled structure is not a ganglion but a foreign body, an inclison cyst, a fibroma and evena giant cell tumor. Just because it is int he location of a ganglion doesn't mean ot is and if it is a ganglion for sure then it may not need tob e takenout unless it bothers you.
