Need special shampoo: A medicinal shampoo, such as nix, (permethrin) is needed to kill lice and their offspring. There are several over-the-counter products to choose from. The key is to get rid of the eggs and kill the hatched lice before they reproduce. If any eggs survive (they are on hairs, near the scalp), the cycle just begins all over again. Without nix, (permethrin) one must pick off every egg and crush every louse to cure the problem.

Lice: Natural remedies for lice include the application of olive oil, petroleum jelly, mineral oil or mayonnaise to the head/ hair. These oil-based products smother the louse.
