Like excitment: Physical exertion, produces the adrenaline rush through your blood to your heart- making it race. It is the same when you are fighting or running away for your life. Stress hormones help get you mentally and physically ready for the challenge.

Need recording: Hard to say without seeing the rhythm. If the palpitations are reliably reproducible, your doctor can get you a holter monitor which you wear for 24 hours. Then go lift weights and make it happen. If the episodes are less frequent, get a 30 day monitor.
