Yes: Most pediatricians will discourage sex for all our teenage patients. If a parent or patient (our teenagers) want to discuss birth control, we are pleased that they are concerned about safe sex. Birth control pills may be just one area of discussion to help the teenagers. There are other medical reasons for hormone therapy is girls, including acne and abnormal periods. Talk with their doctor.

Oral BCP's ?: If your daughters are sexually active, or anticipating such, oral bcps may be a good preventive measure, if no contraindications exist (history of blood clots, etc.). Oral bcp's do require punctual daily ingestion (within the hour of the previous day), so if you make this decision, you may need to oversee the way they take the pill. Other options include depo-progesterone shots.
