A member asked:

I had a sex (by condom) with a sex-worker woman. test result after 16 days: hiv(1&2)ab/ag(p24)...result:0.178(negative)..method:ellisa can i be sure?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not sure.: Can't be sure, but a few things in your favor. #1 used condom. #2 did not mention any symptoms of acute HIV infection. #3 initial test is negative. Having said that none of these things is perfect. Should be tested again at 3 and 6 months to be absolutely certain. In interim, absolutely practice safe sex as you could potentially develop infectivity.
