A member asked:

How can a person that has herpes ever bring a child into the world without infecting his or her partner?

Use care.: Herpes is a virus that spreads easily so care is needed. If you have a partner, they should be checked for the HSV antibody-they may already have HSV even if they never had an outbreak. If one partner is unaffected, then suppression therapy with Valtrex (valacyclovir) or Acyclovir can significantly reduce the viral shedding and reduce the transmission risk. In vitro would be another option.

Yes: Herpes is easy to transmit - but there is medication to reduce the risk of transmitting herpes and being aware of recurrences can help to decrease the risk of transmission.
