It lowers the pH,: Making it more acidic &, therefore, more resistant to bacteria. I don't treat adults, so i can't speak to the efficacy in post-pubertal women. In pre-pubertal girls, the vulvar lining is only a few cell layers thick. Wiping back to front brings bacteria forward. Bubble baths or sitting in a tub with dissolved soap make the area more alkaline. Baths with 1cup of white vinegar to 6" water help.
