Yes, recurrence: As its name suggests this is a response to prolonged inflammation and more likely to occur in darker complected individuals. Anything that aggravates or causes inflammation ( foreign bodies, delayed healing, sun exposure, tobacco use, irritation, infection, etc) are likely to worsen the hyperpigmentation. Similarly interventions which reduce inflammation and speed healing minimize pigmentation.
